March 3rd - 6 - 8:30pm Arm Balances- You're Stronger Than You Think
The poses affectionately known as arm balances may conjure up all sorts of fears or doubts about our own strength and ability. This class is all about having a victory with these poses. Whether it's the first time you hold yourself off the floor in a pose or you've been working towards some of these poses, you will learn all kinds of tips to help you work smarter in these poses and make them more accessible. *asana based*
March 4th - 9 - 11:30am Passport To Your Core: A Yoga Practice to Guide You into Yourself While Turning Yourself Upside Down
This class will use asana and pranayama to examine the mind body connection more deeply. The focus will be on the group of poses known as the Inversions - the upside down poses. Through an intelligent sequence of poses we will practice Handstands at the wall whether you are a pro already or a complete novice. Forearm balance will be done at the wall as well and headstand and shoulderstand will be introduced and shared as well. We will complete the class with the most restful pose, Viparita karani, legs up against the wall. This class will be taught in a supportive compassionate environment with the focus on the process of yoga and not necessarily on the final pose. All are welcome!
*asana, pranayama, some partner work, props used for sure*
March 4th - 1:30 - 4pm Introduction to the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali
Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras are considered to be the road map for the yogi. The word “sutra” when broken down is translated as “su,” meaning to link, and “tra,” meaning in order to transcend...so the sutras are small phrases with very big meanings. All yogic traditions are rooted in the ancient philosophy, which basically explains the steps needed to be taken in order to reach enlightenment. While most of us are not necessarily after enlightenment, these seemingly simple aphorisms can be a lifelong study and practice. In this class we will explore the sutras most related to asana and we’ll do this through translating them, defining them, and then chanting them. ***This will be a discussion-oriented class with some pranayama and meditation included.***
March 5th - 10 - 12:30 Maya Yoga Vinyasa Fusion Flow
This is a strong dynamic yoga class that incorporates all aspects of Maya Yoga including asana, pranayama, chanting, meditation, prayer, and deep relaxation, to leave you feeling recharged and inspired about your practice. Sun salutations will be practiced to build internal heat and establish the harmonious flow of breath and movement known as “Vinyasa”. Standing poses are linked with the sun salutations to create the dynamic flow that is both detoxifying and rejuvenating. What happens from there is organic and may include backbends, forward bends, arm balances, inversions or hip openers depending on the students and the energy of the day. The end of the class will bring you back to yourself and leave you feeling more centered and grounded, especially after a long savasana with Nicki reading poetry to you. *asana, pranayama, chanting, props when needed*
