Restorative Yoga Teacher Training
with Susi Willis

In this workshop, students and teachers will get to experience and get “behind the curtain’ to learn and discover both the obvious and subtle layers necessary to support and create a container for a Restorative Yoga practice. We will explore different poses, props and pranayama choices that assist activating the parasympathetic nervous system-which is essential for rest. Workshop participants will learn both the science and the artful components necessary to facilitate teaching Restorative Yoga Together we will:
- Experience 3 different Restorative Yoga practices
- Create a shared knowledge of what a Restorative Yoga pose/class is and isn’t
- Why Restorative Yoga is important and what it is in service of
- Learn how to teach Restorative Yoga for a classroom of students that may have varied needs
- Basic Understanding of how to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, what the parasympathetic nervous system is and its role in rest
- Experiencing and practicing how to set up Restorative Yoga poses, using different types of props and why you would use the props in different ways dependent on your student’s needs
- Pranayama Practices that support Restorative Yoga poses and classes
- Learn the science behind mindfulness practices and how using this science supports Restorative Yoga
- Learning about the subtle energetics necessary to create a classroom as a Restorative Yoga container
REQUIRED TEXT
WE WILL BE USING THIS FOR POSE SET UP, PLEASE BRING ACTUAL BOOK versus eBook Relax and Renew by Judith Hanson Lasater
REQUIRED PROPS
(We will supply yoga blankets, bolster and blocks. If you prefer to bring your own, required props are listed below.)
- 5 or 6 yoga blankets
- 2 bolsters- (2 real bolsters is best, but 1 can be from blankets)
- 2 blocks
- 1 eye bag
- 1 light head wrap (a very light scarf or a hand towel work great)
SUGGESTED TEXT Restore and Rebalance by Judith Hanson Lasater Please bring a new unused journal so that you can have one place to keep your insights, reflections, observations and ideas in regarding the practice of Restorative Yoga. A student manual will be provided as well during our weekend exploration.

This workshop is open to the public. NO Prerequisites required. Anyone with an interest in learning to teach or deepen their practice of Restorative Yoga can join. This module is part of Sanctuary's 300-hr YTT program and counts as 20 elective hours towards completion of the 300-hr program or as 20 hours for Yoga Alliance’s continuing educational requirements.
